Ronan on recapturing his best form

Newest signing can’t wait to get going

19 January 2024

Ronan Curtis is determined to recapture the form that made him a household name earlier in his career.

The 27-year-old arrives at Wimbledon with a reputation for coming up with the spectacular, having created history at his previous club Portsmouth by becoming the club’s highest scorer in the 21st century.

A record of 57 goals and 42 assists made Ronan one of the most sought after players in the Football League before an anterior cruciate ligament injury curtailed his progress.

Now aiming to prove a point in the colours of yellow and blue, our new attacker can’t wait to get going at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Watch the students of Hatfeild Primary School put Ronan on the spot in this exclusive first interview!

ON BECOMING A DON…

It feels amazing to be here. I have to pay my respects to Wimbledon for letting me come in and get back fit. It’s a lovely stadium and we have a great bunch of lads here. There’s good players that can give me the ball, I thrive on my goals and assists.

The message is plain and simple. I need to go and express myself, do what I do best, score goals and set up goals. Hopefully we can get in the play-offs and see what happens. I’m here to be a team player.

ON CREATING HISTORY AT PORTSMOUTH…

I’m always confident. I scored a lot of goals at Fratton Park, I was the longest servant there and the highest scorer in the 21st century. I’m hoping to keep that good run going here and hopefully get promoted.

ON GROWING UP IN IRELAND…

It shaped me in a particular way. I was born in London, my Mum is from Ireland so we moved back to Ireland when I was very young. I’m part of a big family – of 11 siblings – all the boys played football when they were young. It’s always been a big joy for me to have a big family and to play football. I class myself as Irish, it’s my country and it’s my home roots.

ON HAVING A POINT TO PROVE…

Of course I do. I’m a new player, a new signing that wants to come through the door, start on fire, score some goals and get involved with the lads.

Here’s a selection of Ronan’s best goals to date!
