It was a fitting season finale for our Academy last weekend as young Dons rounded off the campaign by taking on teams from Arsenal and Birmingham.

After a successful year at youth level that included our Under-17s winning the EFL Floodlit Cup, it was time for other junior age groups to take centre stage at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Our Under-9s and Under-10s both earned impressive victories against teams from Arsenal – and with equally brilliant goal celebrations to match!

The Under-11s then pushed the Gunners all the way in their 80-minute match, before being edged out in a penalty shoot-out, and this was followed up by victories for the Under-12s, Under-13s, and Under-15s in matches versus teams from Birmingham City. In a very entertaining Under-14s game, the Dons marched into a 3-0 lead against the Blues, but were pegged back and eventually lost 4-3.

Academy Head of Coaching Jack Matthews said: “Positive results against Academy category one and two opposition demonstrates the strength of our young sides and also the magic of Plough Lane - capping off another positive season in great fashion.

“Thank you to our opponents - Arsenal and Birmingham - as well as all the staff at the Academy and Plough Lane – plus the parents, who showed great support and made the day a really memorable one for everyone involved.”
