Academy Trials (U9s to U11s)

The best players from our development centre will at some stage be invited to officially trial for our Academy. Since the centre is run by academy coaches, they know exactly the playing standard and mentality needed to progress to the next step.

Pre-Academy (U7s to U8s)

The Pre-Academy group are made up of the best invite only U7 and U8 players from the development centres. Both age groups will train once a week with a senior member of academy staff and be invited to play regular Saturday morning matches for AFC Wimbledon.

The overall aim of the Pre-Academy is to find the best 10-12 players ready for academy level football at U9s.

Coaching curriculum

Each 6 week block will have its own development theme based on the academy coaching curriculum. The themes being coached will include:

  • playing out from the back
  • high tempo possession based football
  • finishing
  • 1 v 1 skills

Within each block, coaches will deliver specific topics to players each week to develop understanding and execution of the block's overall theme.

Our academy coaches strive to create a positive learning environment for all players so that sessions are vibrant, challenging, enjoyable and nurturing.

We pride ourselves on NEVER over subscribing a session, ensuring a strict maximum 14:1 player to coach ratio.
