Ayoub Assal

Date of birth

Attacking midfielder who joined the Academy as an Under-12 after leaving Millwall.

Having played for the U18s since he was 15, he signed his first pro contract with the Dons in April 2019, at the age of 17. Ayoub made his first-team debut in a 3-1 EFL Trophy defeat at Southend United in November 2019.

The 2019/20 season was a real breakthrough campaign for Ayoub as he started it by being called up for Morocco Under-20s for a national training camp. However, what followed at club level in the latter stages of the 2020/21 campaign was simply stunning.

After striking his first league goal as a late substitute at Shrewsbury - earning the Dons a vital point - Ayoub led the charge to League One safety. The attacking midfielder struck a double in the 5-1 win at Accrington Stanley, and earned the EFL Young Player of the Month for April, benefiting from the guidance of Head Coach Mark Robinson, who nurtured his talents at Academy level.

He has since signed a new contract with the Dons and been handed the much-coveted number 10 shirt after becoming a real threat in the final third of the field.

Last season he chalked up 10 goals across all competitions and became one of the first names on the team sheet.
