Young Dons v Cherries

Goodman involved at Merstham tomorrow

AFC Wimbledon’s development squad will be aiming to get back on track after a rare defeat when they take on AFC Bournemouth at Merstham tomorrow (7.00 pm kick-off).

Jake Goodman (pictured) will step-up his recuperation after being out since January with a broken toe, but it will be a young squad facing the Cherries with Wimbledon’s first-team at Mansfield.

Simon Bassey said that Jake is now very close to a first-team return.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Simon said: “Jake has been back training for two weeks now and has played one game. However, it takes times for a big lad like him to get his fitness levels up to speed. It would have been different if it had been an upper body injury and he could done some cardiovascular work, but he was struggling to do anything for four or five weeks.

“Jake has been working hard on his fitness with Jason Moriarty. He will play for the Under-21s tomorrow and hopefully we may see him back in during the next week or so.”

Alan Reeves’ young squad have had an excellent season so far and they currently occupy third spot in the Final Third Development League South Division.

AFC Bournemouth are in fifth position and the Dons will be aiming to bounce back after a 3-0 defeat at Peterborough last week.

Entrance fee for all spectators is £5 at tomorrow night’s match.
