Terry Skiverton wants to end an improved season for the Dons on a high against Walsall tomorrow, and he also offered a further glimpse into the work ahead this summer.

“We want to finish this season off in a really good, positive vein,” said Terry after today’s final training session at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

“We don’t want to be at the presentations afterwards, in with the supporters, off the back of a defeat. There’s still a lot of things for us to play for and Walsall still have something to go for too. It’s got the makings of a good game.”

With the visitors bringing a sizeable away contingent and a big crowd expected at Plough Lane, Terry said: “Teams would need to lose by a certain amount of goals and they’d have to win, so Walsall are going to come at us with that possibility of getting into the play-offs.”

After the dust has settled on Saturday’s performance, Terry shed more light on our plans to improve and attempt to move up from League Two next season.

“We’ll get through tomorrow and then we’ll start on it,” said Terry. “Targets have been identified – from players that are here and players that are not with us.

“There’ll be a lot of market trading. It’s going to be a big job this summer – for Craig Cope, the gaffer, Andy Thorn, myself, and the staff – where we’re going to have a recruitment push, because we need to move this forward now.

“The club has come a long way, we’ve gone close, but we want to give the supporters more. Next year it’s going to be really important that we get a really good squad together that the supporters can be proud of.

“The young players that will get pro deals have already seen what it takes. They’ll know what the squad looks like and what the coaching involves, and it’ll be an exciting time for them too.”

Alex Bass, Armani Little and James Tilley are all ruled out due to injury and Terry had an update on Ryan McLean, who had to come off early at Tranmere last weekend. Unfortunately, the winger has suffered an ACL injury.

“He’s going to be out for the foreseeable future,” said Terry. “It so unfortunate because he started the game really brightly.

“To come off so early and to have such a serious injury – it’s a blow for the lad. He’s been in today; he’ll be at the game tomorrow and the lads will get around him. He’s got a future at this football club.”

Midfielder Harry Pell has recovered from his calf injury and could make his 500^th career appearance.

“He’s trained well this week,” said Terry. “He came in today with his hair slicked back and in a ponytail like David Beckham, although he was more like Harry Peckham!”

“It’ll be a landmark for him, if selected. He’s been a great team member, who upsets the opposition.”
