An eventful debut for Dons keeper Bert

Loan round-up of Wimbledon players in action elsewhere at the weekend

13 January 2020

Our Under-18s keeper Bert White made his debut for Walton & Hersham on Saturday and it was certainly an experience that he will remember for years to come!

Bert, who has joined the Combined Counties League Division One club on work experience for an initial month, played the full 90 minutes in an eventful match at the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub. Walton & Hersham triumphed 8-2 against Cove with Bert between the sticks, providing another positive experience for the young keeper, who made a favourable impression during a previous loan spell with Westside.

Bert was one of nine Dons in match action elsewhere at the weekend. Dylan Connolly played 68 minutes for Bradford in their 2-1 defeat at Crawley Town on Saturday. The winger started the match that ended an eight-match unbeaten run for League 2 play-off chasers Bradford. Ayoub Assal started his second loan spell at Metropolitan Police by playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 home defeat against Hendon.

Jamil Ayowejo, who earlier this season made his first-team debut in the Leasing.com Trophy match at Southend United, played a key role in a 2-1 win for South Park at Chalfont St Peter. Jamil started the match, playing the whole game, and David Fisher came on as a substitute in the 75th minute, just before Ainh-War Tran-West notched the late winner. The match came just four days after Jamil and David had played for Wimbledon against South Park in the Surrey Senior Cup.

Finlay Macnab and Zach Robinson, two more young Dons that made their first-team debuts at Southend, both played for Leatherhead in a 2-1 home defeat against Bognor Regis Town. Finlay started the match and Zach came on as a substitute for the second-half.  KJ Osu started for Staines Town in a 2-0 home defeat by Chipstead, but his afternoon ended prematurely as he was sent off in the 85th minute. Richie Mbele played for Godalming Town in a 3-3 draw at FC Deportivo. Nik Tzanev had a weekend off from match action with no game for Sutton United, where he has starred on loan since November.
