Flame still burns strong for popular Dons duo

Experienced pair determined to help pass on their wisdom to Robbo's squad

They’ve been teammates and friends for over eleven years, but there’s no signs of letting up from Ashley Bayes and Darius Charles as they focus on inspiring Wimbledon’s next generation to further success.

Goalkeeper Coach Bayzo and centre-back Darius originally came together in 2010, as part of a successful Stevenage squad that climbed into League One. Six years later, they achieved it again, this time with the Dons at Wembley.

With Darius having returned to Wimbledon, after a successful spell at Wycombe Wanderers, the pair are united again. This time with the powerful centre-back in a new role as mentor and with a common goal to help Robbo’s young squad take the next steps to successful careers.

We sat down with Bayzo and Darius at the training ground, ahead of this Saturday’s visit of Scunthorpe United to Plough Lane, a game which also marks the return of our former Assistant Manager Neil Cox to the Dons - as boss of the Iron.

The popular duo discussed how they first teamed-up, their admiration for what Neil Cox helped them achieve, how pre-season is taking shape and the important role Wimbledon fans can play in tomorrow’s final warm-up game before things get real.

You can watch an entertaining, in-depth interview - full of insight - with Darius Charles and Ashley Bayes below, via the link to our official YouTube channel.
