AFC Wimbledon return to Sutton United on Saturday
It’s a return on Saturday to the venue where AFC Wimbledon’s remarkable journey started and we couldn’t resist putting together a picture special from that iconic day in 2002!
The picture above shows a special presentation before the game with Sutton United Chairman Bruce Elliott (left) and two of AFC Wimbledon’s founder members Ivor Heller (middle) and Kris Stewart.
The 4-0 defeat at Gander Green Lane on 10 July 2002 was immaterial.
“Anyone would think we'd won,” said Kris Stewart, before adding: “What a fantastic night we've all had. It's been lovely. See you on Saturday at Dulwich.”
Wimbledon supporters had a football club to cheer on again and six promotions have since followed during an amazing journey.
We've also added in an image from 1963 with Wimbledon and Sutton players entering the Wembley pitch for the FA Amateur Cup Final.
Of course, the Dons travel to Sutton On Saturday for an Emirates FA Cup third round tie and we will continue our build-up to the game with team news later on today.
