Welcome return for 'Rob's Blog' as part of his trip with U-18s

WDON commentator Rob Cornell had the privilege of an “access all areas” media pass to travel up with our Under-18s for the FA Youth Cup tie at Preston and he’s put together an entertaining video all about the experience.

It features interviews with academy staff Mark Robinson, James Oliver-Pearce, Michael Hamilton, Jenna Richards and Rob Tuvey as they prepared the squad for the match at Deepdale, but there’s also a fun element with FIFA computer competitions on the coach and initiation songs in the team hotel.

Watch out too for a cheeky penalty kick from top scorer Jayden Antwi, leading to wild celebrations from the whole squad!

Defender Paul Kalambayi was understandably disappointed with the FA Youth Cup exit – the Dons suffered a 3-2 defeat after extra-time, but he thanked fans for their great support in the competition.

“We went into the game very prepared and confident,” said Paul. “We started the game really well, but lost our way a bit after 25 minutes. Throughout the whole game, they played as well as us, but we still deserved to win the game. A couple of decisions went against us, but we have good players and we did not quite play to our potential so it was very disappointing.

“I would like to thank all the supporters for coming up to Preston and those who supported us throughout the whole of the FA Youth Cup run. I was very pleased and I wanted to do it for them. Unfortunately, it did not work out, but thank-you.”
