Interview with Barry Fuller on Dons Player

Barry Fuller was full of praise for AFC Wimbledon’s young talents after yesterday’s battling draw at Chesterfield.

Alfie Egan and Tom Beere both stood up to be counted at the Proact Stadium in a match when Wimbledon were required to show plenty of resilience to earn a point.

Speaking during an interview with WDON’s Rob Cornell, Fuller said: “We were without six or seven key players who are normally in and around the starting 11 and we knew it was going to be a difficult one. Chesterfield have a new manager and away from home we had to dig in and grind out a good 0-0.

“The history of the academy is that it has always done well and it is great for them when they see boys getting starts for the first-team. Alfie and Tom produced a great shift for the team and it just shows they are ready to be included in the first-team and pushing for places. They both came into the team and did what the manager had asked of them. Everyone is over the moon for them. I think that was Alfie’s full league debut so congratulations to him.

“Our supporters away from home are always amazing, as they are at home too. We wear the shirt with pride and everyone gives 110 per cent. We do not always get the result that we want, but we are pretty confident that every player who plays on the pitch for AFC Wimbledon with that shirt on will make the fans proud.”

The full interview with Barry Fuller, along with extended highlights from yesterday’s game, and Neal Ardley’s post-match reaction, are all on Dons Player.
