Friendly rivalry lifts pair

Dean Parrett on tonight's match at Coventry

Dean Parrett and James Shea have renewed a rivalry that goes back to 2009, but it’s all for the good of the team!

Seven years ago, Shea was public enemy number one for Parrett as his saves in the Arsenal goal denied Spurs a place in the FA Youth Cup semi-final.

But now they’re team-mates and midfielder Parrett spoke during an interview on our official You Tube channel about providing a lift for his good friend.

“In training if I score more than he saves I win for the day, but I’ve been getting his confidence up lately! He is brilliant and I think everyone can see the qualities he has got; his kicking, reaction saves, the way he collects the ball, and his demands on the players in front of him. He is a quality goalkeeper and it’s good to have someone with so much confidence behind you.”

Parrett added that he is hoping to give Wimbledon supporters something to shout about tonight again after the superb recent away victory at Charlton Athletic.

“I was in the bar after the game a week before Charlton and fans were saying, ‘make sure you win there’. It was a massive win and it was really nice for the fans and us to win the way that we did. Coventry are a big club and whatever problems they have, it’s not down to us. All we can do is focus on our performance and make sure we make it as hard for them as possible.

“We have to go there and stick to our game-plan. We work hard every day to play a certain way and in a style that the manager wants us to play. We must stick to that and ensure that we take our chances on the night. It was disappointing to concede on Saturday after we had scored a goal that we had worked hard on in training. When you are winning 1-0 at home you should hold onto it really, but all we can do now is move onto the next game now.”

The full interview with Dean Parrett is on Dons Player, along with Neal Ardley’s extensive update.
