VIDEO highlights a great occasion for AFC Wimbledon mascots

Young Dons fans get to sample an unforgettable experience as AFC Wimbledon mascots and we recently took a behind-the-scenes look at what the club has to offer on match days.

The result did not go Wimbledon’s way against Bury last month, but mascots Tom and Nathan enjoyed a great day. It included meeting their favourite players in the dressing room, discussing tactics with manager Neal Ardley in his office, having a kick-about on the pitch, and then walking out with the team in front of almost 4,000 fans.

Indeed, it was extra special for Nathan as the occasion marked his seventh Birthday a day later and one of our photographs shows him with his favourite player Jack Midson and a celebratory cake.

Receiving a signed ball from the man of the match is the last highlight of an action-packed day for our AFC Wimbledon mascots and we as a club strive to make the experience a truly special one.

Tom’s father Trevor said: “It has been fantastic because everyone has been so warm and friendly. The players were amazing when we went into the dressing room before the match. Tom has really enjoyed it and I’ve never seen him kick the ball so well! It’s a team effort at this club and I’ve seen that today.”

Below are just a few thank you e-mails we have received this season from parents of mascots:

Elliott had a great time & enjoyed getting up close & personal with many of his favourite players.” (Sheila Gould) “My son, Elliott, was mascot for AFCW on Saturday 11th Jan 2014 against Torquay and I would like to say 'thank you' for a great day.

“The day was another example of why Wimbledon is a true fans club. The genuine warmth and welcome from Jim, Neal, the players and the rest of the staff was something that we'll treasure for ever.”

“I don't know if there is an award for 'Best Club Mascot Day' but if there is, then I'd be happy to nominate AFC Wimbledon.”

“My son Max said it was epic and my daughter Hannah started listing her three favourite parts of the day, but gave up once she'd got to seven. Even my wife, who had only been to one football match before yesterday, had a good time. That was, in its own way, the most remarkable part of yesterday.” (Dominic O’Reilly)
