Dons Ladies hit six

2 September 2014

Big victory includes an excellent individual display

Summer signing Caz Bisson sparked an impressive win for AFC Wimbledon Ladies as she struck four goals on Sunday.

Bisson (pictured in match action above) set the ball rolling with a brilliant opener in a 6-0 win at Sussex outfit Hassocks – and there was no stopping her after that.

The striker, who signed from Bracknell Town in the summer after scoring almost 50 goals in the last three seasons, is one of a number of eye-catching signings made by new manager Chris Lyons as he aims to revitalise Wimbledon. The Dons finished bottom in the London & South East Regional Women’s Premier Division last season, but they’ve already made a far more encouraging start to this campaign.

Bisson struck first after just 19 minutes with a superb volley that left the Hassocks goalkeeper with no chance.

In a tight first-half that saw both sides struggle for supremacy, Dons captain Libby Suchley became the first player to receive a very assertive warning from referee Gary Manville-Dickens.

However, just before the interval Wimbledon doubled their advantage when Emma Keady rose highest in the box to head home from a corner.

Though the match threatened to boil over when Dons keeper Liane Tylee and centre-back Alysha Clements were both booked for dissent, the final quarter of this match will be remembered for the right reasons by Wimbledon. Despite having a goal controversially ruled out 10 minutes into the second-half, Wimbledon did not let that setback affect them and they poured on the pressure against a tiring Hassocks side in the latter stages.

With 23 minutes left, Keady struck her second of the match to make it 3-0 and Bisson’s forward play proved too hot to handle for the hosts after that. The striker added her second 15 minutes from time when she rounded the Hassocks goalkeeper and tapped home after a great run, before she smashed home for her hat-trick after a move involving Cindy Colliver and Rebecca Sargent.

The icing on the cake arrived in injury-time when Bisson struck her fourth of the day and it was an overall performance that bodes well for a much-improved campaign for the Dons.
