Jake a doubt for Accy test

23 January 2015

Team news from Neal ahead of home game

Centre-back Jake Goodman is doubtful for the home match against Accrington Stanley tomorrow after he suffered a toe injury in training.

Neal Ardley could be without the towering defender, who has been an ever-present since joining the Dons on loan from Millwall in December.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “Jake had his toe trodden on during training on Tuesday and he’s very sore. We will get an X-ray on that and he will be a doubt. Other than Jake, everyone else is fine.”

Neal Ardley added that he faces big selection dilemmas in several positions, including whether to throw 20-year-old Craig Tanner straight in for his debut after he signed on loan from Reading.

“I look at the options and the team selection problems I’ve got and we’ve not had that for a while. Previously, the starting 11 was close to picking itself. But now I am looking at the 18-man squad and thinking ‘where am I going with this?’ Hopefully, I’ll get it right on Saturday.

“It’s always difficult for young lads coming out of Under-21 football. There is that element that us and the fans will have to be patient with Craig, but sometimes the best way is to throw them in at the deep end. We may well do that with Craig. Ability wise Craig is frightening, but it’s all about getting him to understand how he’s going to affect games of football at this level.

“Craig is an exciting talent and if you cannot learn from David Connolly then there would be something wrong. David’s training standards are phenomenal.”

The full seven-minute update from Neal Ardley appeared on Dons Player yesterday, along with an interview with Craig Tanner.
