Wyke's Wimbledon farewell

4 April 2014

Praise for striker ahead of his final match on loan

Charlie Wyke will be aiming to mark the final game of his AFC Wimbledon loan spell with a goal against Bristol Rovers tomorrow - and he goes into that match with glowing praise from Neal Ardley.

The 21-year-old has made 16 appearances and scored two goals since joining Wimbledon on loan in January, but it’s his overall contribution that has been most impressive.

“Charlie has been brilliant,” Neal told Dons Player. “We liked the lad prior to signing him and he scored on his debut. Though Charlie would have liked to have chipped in with a few more goals, it’s hard for an Under-21 player. He has come down and in many ways tried to fill the boots of Michael Smith, along with Danny Hylton. It has not quite worked out in terms of the goals, but Charlie has given 110 per cent in every match and that’s all you can ask for.

“Hopefully, Charlie will go back to Middlesbrough as a better player and having learned a lot. We thank Middlesbrough for letting us have him.”
