Strength in numbers helps DLAG cause

Keeping our community connected

26 September 2023

Our Dons Local Action Group were given a special boost as they were joined by Leyton Road Centre residents as both teamed up to collect vital essentials.

Assisting DLAG volunteer Rosaline, the residents handled donations of tinned fruit, meats and fish as well as other key cooking essentials such as pasta and beans.

The Group was then joined by Store Manager of Sainsbury’s Merton Steven Billing, who was only too happy to facilitate our stalls being set up at the front entrance.

We were visited by several Wimbledon fans on the day, which once again underlined the value of engaging with our community and supporting the people who need it most. The extra number of those volunteering on the day made a big difference to the Group’s ongoing efforts to tackle poverty in our local community.

DLAG co-founder Craig Wellstead said: “It was great to see residents from the Leyton Road Centre during their first shift volunteering for Dons Local Action Group. One of our biggest aims is to remove obstacles that constantly seem to be put in place of those that need help the most.

“AFC Wimbledon, Dons Local Action Group and Merton SavaCentre are all huge parts of our community and working alongside each other can bring nothing but good to this wonderful borough.”
