Jack on his Oxford return

2 October 2012

Interview with Jack Midson

Jack Midson is determined to make up for lost time when he returns from suspension against his old club Oxford United tonight.

Speaking to Dons Player, our top scorer from last season admits he still has a lot of affection for the club he helped to promotion into the Football League during a two-year spell at the Kassam Stadium.

However, the 29-year-old striker aims to make amends after his recent sending off by helping the Dons get back on track after Saturday’s defeat to Accrington Stanley.

“It is nice to be back available for selection as I was gutted with my sending off recently,” Jack said. “But that’s football and you have to take it on the chin. I am buzzing for the game and going back to my old club. Oxford is a club that is still in my heart and I always look for their results. They were top of the league after three games, but they have lost their last six games. They should be doing better, but whether they are under pressure or not is nothing to do with us. We need to concentrate on our game and we will go there looking to get three points.”

Oxford danger-man Alfie Potter, who had a brief loan spell at AFC Wimbledon during our Ryman League days in 2008, is likely to be a key threat to his old club tonight. Jack will come up against several of his former team-mates and the striker says he has done everything he can to assist Simon Bassey on the opposition tonight.

“Alfie is a good player, who is very sharp and often cuts inside a lot to get shots in,” added Midson. “We have spoken about him and I have tried to help ‘Bass’ out with their players. But Simon goes to a lot of games and looks at videos, he does that research anyway. I am gutted to have missed games as they are opportunities to have scored goals. I have watched the games that I have missed and Byron Harrison has held the ball up brilliantly. If I do play, then it will be a great opportunity for me if he holds the ball up like that and I can join in the attack.”
