Focus on Carlisle United as part of 2014/15 countdown

There’s now just seven days until the start of 2014/15 and we continue our countdown by focusing on a team aiming to bounce back after relegation last season.

Most clubs suffering relegation inevitably have to overhaul their squads and Carlisle United are no different with 13 players departing and seven new additions so far.

Manager Graham Kavanagh has been busy in the transfer market this summer as he aims to breathe new life into the men from Cumbria. Former Doncaster Rovers and Swindon striker Billy Paynter (pictured) has a prolific record in the Football League and Carlisle will be looking to him for goals next season. Kavanagh has recruited players with plenty of experience at a higher level, including Danny Kearns from Peterborough United and Gary Dicker, who played a part in Brighton’s rise. If Kavanagh’s signings can gel next season, then Carlisle are likely to be contenders for an instant return back to League 1.
