Poleon vying for recall

Striker back fit again for Bradford

Neal Ardley today confirmed that Dominic Poleon is back in contention for Saturday’s match against Bradford after he recovered from a groin injury.

The striker missed out on the victory at Peterborough after suffering the injury two days before in training. Extra experience will also be added to the squad to take on third placed Bradford with Paul Robinson back from suspension and Darius Charles having returned to training after a leg injury.

However, midfielder Dean Parrett is likely to miss the game due to illness.

Speaking during an extensive update for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “Dom felt his groin last Thursday and he tried to do a little bit on Friday, but he was still feeling it. He had to be left out of the 18 at the weekend, but he trained on Tuesday and again today so he’s back in contention for the squad. Dean has been quite badly ill so he will struggle to make Saturday I would have thought. We have Paul Robinson available again and Darius has trained today so we have a selection problem.”

With several players having come into the side and impressed to earn victory at Peterborough last Saturday, Neal added that he’s not looking forward to letting members of his squad know that they will not be playing on Saturday.

“Friday is always a difficult day for me because I have to name the team,” added Neal. “I do not like disappointing people and it’s hard to disappoint players when they are all doing really well. We saw that last week. Tyrone Barnett came in against Bury last week and did a fantastic job for the team. ‘Whelps’ and Tom Elliott came in for Peterborough and George Francomb and Tom Beere did great jobs. Then there was Chris Robertson and Will Nightingale.

“There are a few there that could quite easily be knocking on the door if they are not in the team, but we are planning. We have this match and the FA Cup game next week and we are trying to make sure that we get through another tough schedule.”
