We all love a Currie!

Post-match reaction at the double

4 December 2022

“Do you like curry?” asked a young Dons fan of our attacking left full-back as he signed autographs pitch side.

“I absolutely love it!” replied Jack Currie, after helping us keep a fourth successive League Two clean sheet and making it seven unbeaten following our latest victory over Grimsby. The same sort of reaction could be applied to our young defender and the appreciation our fan base in general have for him right now.

Jack has been involved in eight clean sheets for us in all competitions, in his 24 appearances so far for the Dons in his breakthrough season.

“Our backline is young and really hungry,” said Jack. “We know what the badge means, we’re putting our bodies on the line and we’ve got energy to spare. We know how to properly put in performances like this one.

“We knew we hadn’t had the best first half, but when we came in at half time we knew what we needed to do to get success. I thought everyone to a man raised it a couple of gears and we put in a performance that deservedly got us a result.

“When ‘Chis’ is in those positions he is going to score. Harry Pell has assisted him again and there’s a good combination there. I think the main thing is that we’re getting goals, we’re getting in good areas and we’re finishing them.

“Paris Maghoma, on his day, he’s a magician,” said Jack of our sponsors’ man-of-the-match. “He’s one of the best on the ball and he really showed why he should be in there. He did the ugly side of the game as well.”

It was midfielder Ethan Chislett who got the goal that separated the two sides, his seventh of the season, and he spoke immediately after the final whistle.

“Whether we can be scruffy or not - we can win games,” said Ethan. “It’s the Dons isn’t it, it’s the way we like it! We can go long and direct and we’ve also got players who can play.

“Jack Currie’s throw in created the goal and it was a brilliant flick from Harry Pell. We know what he’s about! He was winding them up again.

“The gaffer has got me thinking about where I’m arriving in the box to always be a threat and it’s good to help the team.  It was a good victory, another clean sheet, credit to all the boys – I thought to a man we were brilliant. Potentially we started off a bit shaky, but we’re a team and I always knew that we’d turn it around.”
