Striker Josh Davison demonstrated the strong bond within our group after rediscovering his goalscoring touch ahead of the New Year’s Day derby at Sutton.

Josh was quick to praise the efforts of his team-mates after notching his eighth of the season at Colchester - his first since October 29 against Harrogate.

“We’re full of confidence,” said Josh. “That’s a run of ten games unbeaten in League Two – let’s keep it going!

“It was a great win after a hard shift. They played ugly and we had to stand up to it, having gone a goal down. It shows the character we’ve got to get the win, away from home as well, to extend the run. We’re all buzzing after that!

“They had big John Akinde up front and he’s a handful. Paul Kalambayi and Ryley Towler played well and stood up to the challenge. The whole team did, fighting for seconds and winning first contacts against a big side. That’s how they play, and we did well.”

“With my goal, Ayoub crossed the ball with the outside of his foot. In training I know to get across the front of the goal when he is running down the line. I managed to do that, their keeper came out, and I just had to flick it in. It was an open goal, so I’ll take it.

“For the second goal, I saw Huseyin Biler preparing to shoot from 30 yards out! I thought, 'what’s he doing there?! The keeper spilled the ball and Ethan Chislett was on his toes. As soon as we got the second, we knew we were going to see the game through.”

Josh acknowledged the role of our 786 travelling supporters as they made light of Christmas train strikes to provide great backing for the Dons.

“They were loud all game, out singing the home fans,” said Josh. “We heard them for the entire match, and they really were the twelfth man for us. To make that journey on a Thursday evening was unreal.”
