Marcel sparks promotion bid

Loan Watch: Attacking midfielder praised

Marcel Campbell earned plaudits after his goal scoring exploits on Saturday.

The first-year professional notched the opening goal for South Park Reigate in the ninth minute of their top of the table clash with Marlow. The Sparks went on to win 2-0, against their third in the table visitors, and are into the play-off places in fifth in the Isthmian South Central under an interim management team.

Former Academy midfielder Seanan McKillop was a member of our under 18s side that beat Watford and Newcastle in 2015/16. He’s one half of that management duo and he spoke in glowing terms of Marcel's contribution since he joined on loan in September.

"Marcel has really picked up form and has been a standout figure in recent weeks," said Seanan.

"It’s always a good sign when players stand up to be counted against tough opposition and Marcel has certainly been one of those individuals. Marcel’s work rate has been unmatched and through this, his talent has really shone through - which ultimately raised the level of those around him.

"I look forward to seeing what more is to come from Marcel and how far he can push himself and the group this season."

Striker Zach Robinson missed Dundee’s Scottish Challenge Cup victory at Falkirk last Thursday. The Dee reached the last eight of the competition with a 3-0 win, but Zach remained sidelined due to his hamstring.

It’s still hoped he won’t be out long term. The forward has scored eight times in 19 appearances for Dundee, but last figured in the Scottish Championship game against Hamilton nearly a month ago.

There was double frustration for striker Aaron Cosgrave, as he continues to build on his fitness with National League side Southend United. Aaron is aiming to add to his ten appearances so far with the Shrimpers, but that’s been hampered by postponements of their games at Boreham Wood on Saturday and at home to FC Halifax Town tonight.

Winger Dylan Adjei-Hersey will be hoping for more game time tonight with Eastbourne Borough. Subject to a pitch inspection, they visit National League South leaders Ebbsfleet United, whose squad this season features our former players Luke O'Neill, Craig Tanner and Dom Poleon.

Unfortunately, there's been no further game time for defender Luke Jenkins as Hampton & Richmond's home game against Cheshunt at the weekend and tonight's match at Bath City were called off.

Defender Ben Mason is getting his fitness back with Basingstoke Town, after a short spell out due to illness. Saturday's Isthmian South Central game at Southall was postponed.

Wandsworth-born left back Oliver Downs joined Combined Counties League, Premier Division South side Fleet Town on Sunday. They're under the new management of Jermaine McGlashan, who faced us a few times as a player, as he now shapes his squad.

Basingstoke are due to host Fleet in the last 16 of the Hampshire Senior Cup tonight. Ben scored his first senior goal against the Royal Navy in a previous round.

Goalkeeper Max Foulkes also had to sit out the weekend’s action, as Molesey’s Combined Counties League Division One fixture at Walton Road fell victim to the weather.
