Home grown talent Jack Currie is rapidly establishing himself as a fans’ favourite, and he continued to impress as we extended our unbeaten run to seven at Salford.

The young defender helped us keep a second successive clean sheet in the league, as we followed up a midweek victory over leaders Leyton Orient with a point at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday.

“Coming into the game we wanted to put a marker down after Tuesday’s good performance,” said Jack. “I thought the way we conducted ourselves, we all defended properly, and we knew exactly what we needed to do to keep a clean sheet. It’s just a shame that we couldn’t get the goal that we probably deserved.

“We want to be as solid as possible, it’s definitely something we’ve worked on, defending from set-pieces, I think we’ve really put that into practice and obviously Tans with the save at the end is what we needed. He’s oozing with confidence at the moment, and I think as a back four we’re really gelling together.

“What’s important is consistency. It’s good having performances like Tuesday night and here against Salford, but the most important factor is that we keep it up, we stay together, and we keep working hard for each other and keep giving the fans something to cheer about.”

Having had a consistent season-long loan with National League South side Eastbourne Borough, the Academy graduate is making further progress with his game under Johnnie Jackson.

“I always strive to put a hundred per-cent in for every game,” said Jack. “I think this game was one where we needed to put in a good performance and we’ve got a point. Most importantly, the team doing well. It was nice to keep a clean sheet."

“It was good to get a proper glimpse of men’s football, last season at Eastbourne. It was my first proper season at that level and bringing it to League Two this year has been a massive step for me and I think it’s one that I’ve taken. I love the club and everything about it and it’s just important that we keep putting in these performances, working for the team and giving everything for the badge.”

Attention now turns to Tuesday evening’s FA Cup first round replay against non-league Weymouth, with another home tie against Chesterfield awaiting the winners.

“It’s going to be a good one,” said Jack enthusiastically. “Hopefully we’ll get a very good crowd at Plough Lane again to cheer us on, like last Tuesday. It’s important that we take these good performances, build on them, keep more clean sheets and we’ll get our rewards.”
