Josh: I feel loved here

Striker talks us through his winner

31 October 2022

“Knee slides are the basics,” beamed an upbeat Josh Davison as he reflected on his goal celebration after securing our 3-2 comeback over Harrogate Town.

Our number nine’s seventh goal of the season was arguably both his best and most important in a Wimbledon shirt to date – with the meaning of the strike certainly not being lost on the player himself.

“When Courtney got the equaliser, the crowd knew that something was going to happen," he said. “It was getting louder and Harrogate were sinking further and further back. When Tans (Nik Tzanev) kicked it long and I was in a foot race with the centre back, I knew I had to focus on the touch.

“Get the touch right and then get the shot off. When you take a shot that quickly it’s more than likely going to go in. Throughout the game I had a couple of chances and things weren’t going for us. I knew how much the goal meant for us as a team. All of my emotions came out at once in the celebration.”

It’s been a brilliant start to his career with the Dons and unsurprisingly the talented striker is feeling on top of the world after hitting his stride in recent matches.

“I feel great. I’ve had so many positive messages sent to me through social media. The weekend is always made better after scoring the winner and getting three points.

“I’ve been enjoying it every day here. There’s good people around the place, from top to bottom. I feel loved and that’s what you want as a player.”
