Unstoppable Isaac views draw as stepping stone

Academy graduate earns praise from Johnnie

Not even cramp could stop our Academy graduate Isaac Ogundere from delivering a committed, mature display, on his first league start for the club.

Isaac, who captained our Under-18s to Youth Alliance Cup glory previously, earned praise afterwards from Johnnie Jackson, as we were just denied victory right at the end at Bradford City.

“You have to bite your tongue when you concede one at the end,” said Isaac. “But we’re happy that we came here and got a point. We really feel we should have come away with all three.

“We’re disappointed to have not taken three points, but with the games that we’ve had before and not getting anything, we’ve come here in front of thousands of fans and grabbed a point, which is a good stepping stone for next week.

“It was a different intensity out there, compared to the other games I’ve played this season, I had to do a lot of running. I hung in there in the end and that’s football – you’re going to get cramp sometimes, but you’ve got to stay in the game.”

The defender, who turns 20 in November, acknowledged the hard work of his teammates after the Dons fought their way back from a goal down and the loss of captain Alex Pearce to injury early in the game.

“To start one down early on and then to come back to 2-1 was really good,” said Isaac. “We got in at half-time, having been all over them after their first goal, and I think we carried that on in the second-half - it showed when we got our two goals.

“It was hard, especially when we lost Pearcy, but we dug in deep. When Lee Brown took that captain’s armband he led us boys, kept us high and defended really well. I thought the back three were excellent – especially when Ryley Towler came on.

“Harry Pell is good to play with, he’s really demanding, but I like that as a player as he’s always got your back. He’s always going to back you up. He deserved his goal as well.

“Ethan Chislett had scored one already like that against Crawley and he’s done it again! It got us right back in the game and it was great to see that go in.”
