Serving up for a timely return

A catch-up with our young right-back

Huseyin Biler has been using all of the tools at his disposal to clinch a return to action – and his new-found love for tennis has aided his recovery along the way.

Aside from the injury issues that he’s experienced in recent times, it’s been a long road for ‘Hus’ to get to this stage of his career, having originally joined our Academy as an 18-year-old after being spotted playing Sunday football for Ryan FC in Walthamstow.

Johnnie Jackson is now the man in charge at Plough Lane and naturally the defender is keen to make a good impression on the boss.

“We play great football, the new gaffer is a top-man, he’s very fair and we learn a lot under him,” said Huseyin. “He’s got a bit about him when he’s playing, which is always good to see. I need to keep working hard in training in order to better myself every day. I need to work on stuff that I’m already good at, so that my attributes become super strengths. It’s then up to the manager to put me in the squad if I impress him enough.

“It feels amazing. I’m very blessed to be back. The light at the end of the tunnel was that I was eventually going to be back fit. Being here is great. Every season gets better and better.”

With his only experience of senior football for the Club having come in the EFL Trophy, Hus is keen to get some minutes in League Two this coming season as he aims to break into the starting eleven.

A player that prides himself on improving all of the time, he has been finding new ways to bridge the gap as he edges closer to a return.

“Everyone’s aim as a little boy is to play for the first-team. It’s my aim and that’s what I’m working hard towards achieving,” he said. “I’ve been watching a lot of Premier League and European matches in order to help improve my game. It gives me a chance to watch players that play in my position.

“I’ve also found tennis to be helpful, it’s helped to maintain my sharpness because it requires a lot of movement towards the ball. I’d take on Elliott Bolton. He’s been playing since he was young, I’d love to challenge myself against him.”
