Zach’s title aspirations suffer a knock

Loan Watch: Weekend round-up

3 April 2023

Zach Robinson’s loan spell north of the border could end with a title and promotion to the Scottish top-flight, but the striker suffered a blow at the weekend.

The forward, who has netted ten times in 28 appearances for Dundee this season, came off just after the half hour mark with a nasty knock from a clash of heads with Fergus Owens, in the Dee’s 7-0 demolition of Hamilton Academical.

On this occasion Zach didn’t get on the scoresheet, having made a promising start to the game with strike partner Alex Jakubiak. However, former Dons defender, fellow academy graduate and Dundee captain Ryan Sweeney was among the goal scorers. Zach was also overtaken by Lyall Cameron as the club’s top scorer this season.

Dundee are a point behind leaders Queen’s Park and with a game in hand in the Scottish Championship.

Also on Saturday, striker Aaron Cosgrave came on for the last half hour of King’s Lynn Town’s dramatic 1-0 victory at Chorley. Although he didn’t score, an 89th minute goal strengthened the Linnets grip on second place in National League North.

Two of our Academy under-18s squad were involved in much-needed wins in the Isthmian Premier, in the battle to beat the drop.

Versatile Ibrahim Bangura started and played the full game for Kingstonian, who came back from a goal down in their 3-1 victory at Folkestone Invicta in front of a crowd of 722.

"The loan has been a good experience for me," said Ibs. "I've wanted to familiarise myself with the men's game for some time now and I think it will only stand me in good stead for the future."

Defender Jola Lahan (pictured above) came on just before the midway point of the second half, to help Corinthian-Casuals to a 1-0 win at Potters Bar Town.

"I think it's been a really good experience overall," said Jola. "Playing against older players is a challenge in itself, but also the margin for any slight error becomes a lot tighter than playing at 18s level - especially when your team is fighting to get points on the board."

Forward Paris Lock made it onto the bench for the first time for leaders Chatham Town who, with Danny Kedwell in their starting line-up, beat Whitehawk 2-1 in the Isthmian South East.
