Young Dons reap the rewards

Loan Watch: The latest round-up of our players in action elsewhere

Three of our rising young talents got a taste of winning trophies at senior level over the weekend.

Goalkeeper Max Foulkes completed an end of season awards double, with Combined Counties League Division One side Molesey.

Max collected the supporters’ award and the Mick Burgess award, named after the Molesey great and former Club President.

Our main photo shows Lee Innes, Molesey manager Peter Doherty, Max and Rob Wade with the Mick Burgess glass bowl and below teammate Harry Boxall joined in the presentation of the supporters’ award to Max.

“It has been a great experience playing at Molesey, both on and off the pitch,” said Max. “Since my first game at home here, the players and supporters have all trusted and supported me this season. To receive both of these awards means a lot to me and I am very grateful to win these awards.”

It had been the start of a busy time for Max since he returned on loan to Molesey recently. Last Monday, he played in the 4-1 win at Westside. He was back in goal on Wednesday for the single-goal defeat at Sandhurst Town, but returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Bagshot at Walton Road.

Defender Ben Mason, who skippered our academy under-18s to silverware last season, has been with Basingstoke Town for all of this campaign and on Saturday he got his hands on another medal. The Hampshire club pipped Walton & Hersham to the Isthmian South Central title.

Forward Paris Lock, whose goal for us knocked Burnley out of the FA Youth Cup two years ago, also had reason to celebrate.

He was with Chatham Town and their player/assistant manager Danny Kedwell for their run-in to clinching the Isthmian South East crown. Paris played in the final game away to Littlehampton Town and scored his first goal and Chatham’s third in a 4-1 victory.

Elsewhere, striker Zach Robinson played the full game of Dundee’s one-all draw at third-place Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The Dee still sit top of the Scottish Championship table and lead the way by a point. They face second in table Queen’s Park on May 5.

Aaron Cosgrave wasn’t involved in King’s Lynn Town’s 3-1 win at Darlington. The Linnets remain top of National League North with a game to go, but second place AFC Fylde play their game in hand tomorrow night in the battle for an automatic promotion place.

Attacking midfielder Morgan Williams got another ninety minutes for Eastbourne Borough, in the National League South defeat at Braintree Town by two goals to nil.

The versatile Ibrahim Bangura lined up for Kingstonian in the 2-1 defeat to Hornchurch at Imperial Fields in the Isthmian Premier. Defender Jola Lahan played the full game for Corinthian-Casuals, who conceded right at the end of their match against Billericay Town and lost 2-1 at King George’s Field.

Closer to home, our under-18s returned to winning ways at the training ground in the Youth Alliance Merit League.

Having been beaten 4-0 at leaders Portsmouth the previous weekend, the young Dons took responsibility on Saturday morning and beat Gillingham 4-1 in a player led game.

Striker Tom Wilson (pictured in action against Leeds) added another to his tally for the season, while midfielder Kai Jennings continued with his return to full fitness providing a couple of assists.

In midweek, defender Leo Young scored the winner as our youth team finally saw off neighbours Raynes Park Vale 2-1 at Grand Drive in the Surrey Midweek Cup. The game had been postponed several times previously due to the recent wet weather conditions.
