Jake Reeves: Story of a Don

Captain approaches landmark appearance

13 December 2023

Now into his third spell as an AFC Wimbledon player, Jake Reeves has seen and felt moments which live long in the memory for both the man himself and our fans.

From that incredible goal against York City to playing a vital role in our 2016 promotion success, the energetic playmaker has been almost ever present during his spells in yellow and blue.

Having rejoined the Club and being handed the captain’s armband by Johnnie Jackson last summer, Jake now takes on a new role as a leader of the pack, having originally first joined us in 2012 at the age of 19 on loan.

Fast forward over 10 years and our skipper is now closing in on his 150th appearance for the Dons – which could come on Saturday away at Salford City.

With this in mind we sat down with ‘Reevesy’ to take a look back at his finest and most memorable moments with Wimbledon, as he revealed some inside secrets and put across how proud he is to represent this club. Subjects included but are not limited to the following:

  • How he came to join the Dons first time round.
  • His run in the play-off semi-final vs Accrington Stanley in 2016.
  • Playing alongside Dannie Bulman.
  • What he said to Neal Ardley before the play-off final at Wembley.
  • The feeling of lifting a trophy at the home of football.
  • A memorable goal under the lights at Kingsmeadow.
  • Joining us for a third time in 2023.
  • Captaining the Dons at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, Plough Lane for the first time.
  • His unique goal celebrations.
  • Ali Al-Hamadi and goals being spread around the squad.
  • His partnership with Armani Little.
  • The respect he has for Johnnie Jackson.
