Loan Watch: Will and Zach face off in Scotland

Wimbledon teammates on opposing sides

18 December 2023

Two of our players met up on opposing sides north of the border in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend.

Defender Will Nightingale was up against striker Zach Robinson, as both started Ross County’s match up against Dundee in Dingwall. Will completed the game - his seventeenth appearance for the Staggies, while Zach got 75 minutes for the visitors - a fifteenth appearance for Dundee this season.

Ultimately the deadlock was broken after eight minutes of added time. Joe O’Shaughnessy chested in the very late winner for the Dee, after the ball rebounded off the post from a free-kick and sparked a pitch invasion.

Dundee are just below mid-table in seventh and four points better off and with a game in hand on Ross County in ninth place.

Closer to home, defender Ben Mason is helping Braintree Town to climb National League South.

Ben was part of an Iron back line that kept a clean sheet in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Aveley at Cressing Road. Braintree are now seventh in the table after victory in the Essex derby.

“Things are going really well,” said Ben. “It was a great win following a tough game against a play-off team. Our last two league games have been against play-off sides, and we should’ve won last time out. I’m getting a lot of game time and enjoying it.”

It’s a similar story with fellow defender Ethan Sutcliffe over in Kent in the same division with Tonbridge Angels.

Ethan helped Angels to a clean sheet in their impressive 4-0 victory over Dartford, which attracted a crowd of 1,237 at Longmead. Tonbridge, skippered by Scott Wagstaff, are now up to ninth.

Attacking midfielder Morgan Williams wasn’t involved in the Surrey derby between Dorking Wanderers and Woking in the National League. Although ‘Morgs’ didn’t figure for the Cardinals, a former AFC Wimbledon player did have a say in the final outcome. Paul Osew scored the winner five minutes from full-time for Woking, who claimed all three points from the 2-1 scoreline.

Winger Ryan McLean clocked another 90 minutes with Kidderminster Harriers, who lost 1-0 away to Maidenhead United.
