Armani: The goals will come

Popular new addition switches attention to Saturday

Armani Little firmly believes we’re not far away from ending a goal drought ahead of Saturday’s visit from Hartlepool United.

We’ve only scored twice this year, but that’s something our new midfielder on loan from League One Forest Green thinks we can address at the weekend, against a side looking to escape the drop zone.

“It’s just that final part we need to tidy up on,” said Armani after we kept yet another clean sheet and earned a point from a goalless draw at promotion-chasers Northampton Town.

“You could see it out there. With the patterns of play and the areas we’re getting into, we’re getting there. I don’t think that’s the problem.

“We had enough chances and we got in good areas to hurt them, it’s just that final shot or final pass that we need, but I’m sure that will come and hopefully that will be on Saturday.

“We’re playing a team at home and we expect to win that game, but we can’t go into that thinking we’re just going to roll them over. We have to do what we’ve been doing the last few games and hopefully we can create a lot of chances and hopefully when one goes in we can score a few more.”

Goalkeeper Nik Tzanev moved into second place in the clean sheet table for League Two goalkeepers after last night’s game, with his thirteenth shut out of the season.

“Credit to all the boys and Nik in goal that we’re getting clean sheets,” said Armani. “We work a lot on our defensive shape and breaking out of that. That’s showing in games now.

“I think we can take massive positives from the Northampton game. Coming away to a team that’s up there, to play how we did – especially in the first half – I think that we could have punished them by half time, but we didn’t. We stuck in there in the second half and we’re happy to take a point here.”

The 25-year-old was thrust into a tough run of fixtures for the Dons, since his debut midway through last month. However, in the time since he’s figured in five games and helped contribute to four of those clean sheets with just the one, narrow defeat at leaders Leyton Orient.

“I’m loving it here,” said Armani. “Since the day I arrived, the club have really taken me in and the boys and the coaching staff have been brilliant. I’m just really enjoying my time.

“I’m always prepared to put myself about and run around for the team. I think that’s just a given. We all do it. I think that’s just the basics for this team.”
