Dons duo make goal scoring impacts

Loan Watch: Dav and Kwaku open their accounts

Being back in familiar surroundings helped striker David Fisher hit the ground running in his latest spell with Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Dav enjoyed a previous loan with the National League South club and settled in again quickly when he moved back to the Beveree last week. He was thrust straight into the action and made an immediate impact with an assist, in a midweek 3-2 victory over Eastbourne Borough.

The Middlesex club’s revival continued on Saturday and this time Dav scored the second goal in a 2-0 victory over Dulwich Hamlet, having come on as a second half substitute.

Defender Luke Jenkins, who signed a pro contract at the same time as Dav in the summer of 2021, also figured in both wins as a substitute for Hampton & Richmond.

Tough-tackling midfielder Kwaku Frimpong notched his first goal for Metropolitan Police on Saturday, when he opened the scoring late in the first half of their 2-0 victory at Gosport Borough in Southern Premier South. Kwaku made a substitute appearance in the hard-fought goalless draw with leaders Weston-Super-Mare at Imber Court last Tuesday.

In the same division on Saturday, striker Quaine Bartley made his Harrow Borough debut in the two-all draw at home to promotion-chasing Chesham United.

North of the border, striker Zach Robinson took his tally for the season to ten goals with Scottish Championship side Dundee.

Crucially for Zach this one was from the penalty spot. He failed to convert penalties in our pre-season friendly with Reading and more recently in the Scottish Challenge Cup semi-final shoot-out against Raith Rovers, but on this occasion he gave the Dee an early lead against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The game finished one-all though, after an unfortunate deflected effort off Dundee's Ryan Sweeney.

Defender Isaac Ogundere has contributed to successive clean sheets with National League South side Dartford. The first was the 1-0 victory over Slough Town in midweek. "Ogs" followed that up with an hour's involvement in the goalless draw with Oxford City at the weekend.

Midfielder Alfie Bendle suffered back-to-back defeats with injury-hit Eastbourne Borough. Following the loss at Hampton & Richmond, Alfie also played in the single goal defeat at Cheshunt on Saturday.

Winger Dylan Adjei-Hersey has had differing fortunes over the past week. He was involved in a third win on the bounce for Hungerford Town over Cheshunt on Tuesday evening, but came on as a sub in Saturday’s defeat to Worthing.

Over in National League North, striker Aaron Cosgrave was named among the substitutes for King's Lynn Town's last two league games, having previously been in good goal scoring form for the Linnets.

Defender Ibrahim Bangura has been helping Kingstonian pick up points in the Isthmian Premier. He was shown a yellow card in Wednesday evening's draw with Herne Bay. "Ibs" came on as a substitute for the closing stages of Saturday's 1-0 win against Bowers & Pitsea.

Defender Jola Lahan and attacking midfielder Morgan Williams earned Corinthian-Casuals a point and a first clean sheet of the season, in their goalless draw with Canvey Island at King George's Field.

Midfielder Elliott Bolton (pictured working with Physical Performance Coach Matt Umney) previously had a successful loan with Tolworth-based Casuals. He could be back in action soon after a lengthy lay-off, as manager Johnnie Jackson explained.

“Elliott has been out for a really long time,” said Johnnie. “He’s not been able to get going this season. He’s fit again, but needs to build up his training and then we’ll look to get him a loan move to get him playing games. He’ll need to go down the loan route, play some games and see how he handles that off the back of some tough times.”

Unfortunately, defender Ethan Sutcliffe, who performed well with Salisbury City in the autumn, has suffered a further set back with a stress fracture and is wearing a protective boot.

“I’m really disappointed for Ethan,” said Johnnie. “He spent the bulk of pre-season with us and we really liked what we saw. We’ve got high hopes for him, but he’s had big setbacks. You have to stick by these young lads and give them all the support they need. They are the most difficult times, so it’s important that we do that.”
