Aaron hits the ground running

Loan Watch: A round-up of our players in action elsewhere

Aaron Cosgrave didn’t take long to open his account with National League North leaders King’s Lynn Town at the weekend.

Having scored once from the penalty spot in an Essex Senior Cup tie for Southend United in his loan spell for the first half of the season, Aaron took just four minutes to double King’s Lynn’s lead in a 2-1 victory at home to Peterborough Sports.

The striker went on to play for an hour in the win on his debut for the Linnets, after he joined on loan for a month.

Two of our talented prospects have agreed one-month extensions to their loans as the battle for promotion from the Isthmian South Central intensifies.

Defender Ben Mason (pictured below) was back in action for Basingstoke Town. He came on for the last eleven minutes as they came back from going a goal down to win 4-1 at home to Westfield. That was Ben’s first taste of league action for nearly two months.

Attacking midfielder Marcel Campbell had been in goalscoring form, but missed South Park Reigate’s latest 1-0 victory over Leatherhead due to illness.

Our Academy and Loans Manager Michael Hamilton said: “The next few weeks are pivotal for both Basingstoke and South Park as they look to stabilise their positions near the top of the table. To be involved in play-off battles is great experience for both players and these extensions allow us time to see how things could potentially pan out.”

Forward Quaine Bartley gained more game time with Wingate & Finchley in the Isthmian Premier, as he played for the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat at Aveley. However, it was a frustrating weekend for midfielder Kwaku Frimpong as Potters Bar Town’s match against Bognor Regis Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

There was also a disappointing outcome for defender Luke Jenkins and his Weymouth team-mates, as their National League South game at Chippenham Town was called off close to kick-off due to the surface being deemed unplayable.

There was no game for Fleet Town on Saturday, but left-wing back Ollie Downs assisted in their first goal in a 3-2 win over Camberley Town in midweek, as the Hampshire club recorded back-to-back victories in the Combined Counties League Premier South.

There was also no further game time for goalkeeper Max Foulkes with Molesey on Saturday, as their match at Brook House in Division One was another to fall victim to the wet conditions.
