PK plays a role to inspire

Centre-back returns to his roots

31 May 2023

When he’s not commanding our backline, Paul Kalambayi is out in our local community as he looks to spread the word of our amazing story.

On Tuesday our Academy graduate attended the AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s half-term holiday course at Southfields as he passed on advice to a large group of participants.

After telling a wide variety of stories during a Q&A, Paul took to the pitch to help his selected side – with the former striker even getting on the scoresheet himself!

AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s Community Sports Coach, Maddi Sweetman, said: “It’s so good to have Paul down because he’s living proof of someone who took this same pathway to gain his career with Wimbledon. It’s great for the kids to understand that if they keep growing, there’s opportunities at the end.

“It’s really inspiring for them and it shows them that there’s a lot more to being a footballer than just being on the pitch for 90 minutes.”

Also speaking about the event, Paul added: “Southfields was our college, so anyone from the age of 16 that was in the Academy came here. There’s kids here now who are starting to play football at a younger age than what I did. It’s great to see what the club are doing in our local community.

“It’s a great programme and is exciting even for myself as it helps to motivate me. It’s important that we continue to spread the story of Wimbledon far and wide.”
