International Dons: Ali on target and Nik bags second cap

The best things come in twos

18 October 2023

There were two more landmarks on the international stage for the Dons this week as Ali Al-Hamadi and Nik Tzanev celebrated personal achievements.

Ali tackled another tournament following his King’s Cup success with the Iraq national team, this time partaking in the Jordan International Tournament.

Although our number 10’s country went on to lose their semi-final on penalties, they were able to toast success in the 3rd/4th place play-off game (2-2 - Iraq won against Jordan 5-3 on penalties), with Ali scoring his second international goal (his first from open plan) to help his side to a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, back in Europe, Nik was handed his second senior cap for the New Zealand national team, starting in a 1-1 draw against DR Congo in Murcia, Spain.

This was followed up by a return to England as he was named amongst the substitutes for the All Whites’ 2-0 loss to Australia at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium.

Although both of our players didn’t achieve the desired the results that they would have wanted, we wish to place on record our pride at seeing both represent AFC Wimbledon on an international stage. Congratulations to both Ali and Nik for their achievements!
