It was an encouraging weekend for several of our young players gaining vital match time and experience elsewhere.
Defenders Ethan Sutcliffe and Josh Hallard trained with the first team squad on Friday, before heading off for duty with their respective loan clubs the next day.
Ethan was named in the Tonbridge Angels starting line-up for their National League South game at Welling United. It finished 2-2 and Angels are just above mid-table and five points off the play-off places.
However, forward Paris Lock was missing from the Tonbridge line-up, after he picked up an injury in training with us back at our New Malden base during a session last week.
As Manager Johnnie Jackson explained: “Unfortunately, Paris pulled his groin. He’s going to miss a few weeks, but I’m told it’s not too bad.”
Josh Hallard increased his involvement with Cray Wanderers in the Isthmian Premier on Saturday.
He played for just under an hour, coming off in the 58th minute, of Cray’s 1-0 win at Cheshunt - a vital win as they continued to pull away from the drop zone having now gone five games undefeated.
Scholar and defender Sean Sankanu started for Corinthian-Casuals in their Isthmian South Central fixture against Southall at King George’s Field.
The Tolworth-based team fought back for a one-all draw, a much-improved performance from the bottom side against third place opposition.
Striker Zach Robinson got the last ten minutes or so of Dundee’s 2-0 victory over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, having come on as a late substitute at Dens Park.
Defender Will Nightingale didn’t figure for the Staggies, as he was forced off with an injury in Ross County’s recent defeat at Motherwell.
