Ashlee leads the charge as free-flowing Dons hit five

A 5-3 victory for AFC Wimbledon Women

15 January 2024

AFC Wimbledon Women continued their great start to 2024, with Ashlee Hincks once again the star of the show.

In a home match switched to Raynes Park Vale, top-of-the-table Wimbledon won an eight-goal thriller with more firepower from Ashlee Hincks sparking a 5-3 victory.

A competitive first-half saw the Dons make a positive start. Inside the first ten minutes, the home side won a throw-in that set-up a shooting chance outside the box for Hincks, who netted the first of her hat-trick on the day.

The Dons started slower in the second-half and were punished for it. A free-kick was swung in which proved to be difficult to deal with and it bounced in off Billie Brooks for an own goal.

In a highly eventful match, a controversial penalty followed when Hannah Billingham was adjudged to have fouled in the box and the visitors made no mistake from the spot.

It didn't take long for the Dons to bounce back - a great ball by Hincks finding Ashleigh Goddard, who rounded the keeper before slotting home.

A chaotic, action-packed second-half followed with Hincks demonstrating her lethal finishing once again. Two sublime long-range free kicks completed her hat-trick and there was more to come when Ellie Dorey struck from the edge of the area.

With full-time on the horizon, AFC Sudbury grabbed themselves a consolation goal to make it 5-3. There was still time for another real positive when Remmi Gardner made a long-awaited return from injury, applauded onto the field, to put the icing on the cake for Wimbledon.
