Dave Beasant fulfilled a childhood dream in May 1988 as he led his Wimbledon teammates up the famous Wembley steps to the coveted Royal Box.
Our then captain had just become the first goalkeeper to save a penalty under the shadow of the famous twin towers as the Crazy Gang defied all doubters to beat Liverpool’s Culture Club to win the FA Cup.
Perhaps the most famous scalp of all time in the competition, Dave hasn’t looked back since that day and still recalls every moment in fantastic detail.
On his return to Plough Lane, the former shot-stopper discussed the following with our Dons TV team:
- The new version of his home
- Changes made to goalkeeper kits
- The heat of cup final day
- THAT penalty
- The secrets behind victory in 1988
- How it feels to lift the trophy
