Tribute to Mick Pugh

We will celebrate Mick's life at the Mansfield game

20 January 2024

Long-serving volunteer Mick Pugh passed away last weekend and all at AFC Wimbledon send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

The Club had planned a tribute to Mick at the Crawley game before it was postponed, with a moment of applause earmarked for before kick-off.

We will instead celebrate Mick’s life at the Mansfield game next Saturday.

In the meantime, Mick’s wife Ann sent us the message below, and a more extensive tribute will be in the matchday programme.

Mick passed away last Saturday, having suffered serious illness for several years, but showing courage, positivity and his unique brand of humour, coupled with bloody-mindedness.

A Wimbledon fan for most of his life, Mick was active in many aspects of the Club, from sponsoring junior teams to being Chairman of Wimbledon Old Players Association (WOPA). Mick was also co-founder of WiSH (Wimbledon in Sporting History), volunteering for over 50 years across so many areas of the Club.

He wrote many heartfelt tributes to former players, volunteers, and fans, for the programme, so it’s only fitting that there will be a full tribute to him in a future issue.

But for now, let’s remember his indomitable spirit, humour and influence on the Club he was so proud of.

A true Womble.
