Johnnie: Point could be important

Reaction to today’s draw

23 March 2024

Johnnie Jackson felt today’s point at Crewe Alexandra could prove to be an important one as Wimbledon continue to push for a play-off place.

John-Kymani Gordon’s lightning-quick opener gave us the perfect start inside the opening minute before Rio Adebisi equalised from distance, setting up an entertaining second-half.

Ultimately, neither side could quite find the moment required to turn one point into three, meaning we left the Mornflake Stadium with a share of the spoils.

Here Johnnie offers his thoughts on the performance, John-Kymani’s first goal for the Club, and provides an update on the fitness of Armani Little.

ON THE PERFORMANCE…

It was a close game between two evenly matched teams. It was fiercely competitive as both teams wanted to get the win. Both teams certainly had their moments, we have to be pleased with the point.

It’s a shame we couldn’t build on the goal because we were on top for the first 15 minutes. I’m a bit disappointed with the goal we conceded, we switched off from a free-kick and it gave them some confidence.

ON JOHN-KYMANI GORDON…

It was a great start to the game. John took his goal really well. It was a well worked move down the left and he put the finishing touch on it. I’m pleased for him, he’s been really bright since he came in. He’s had opportunities in the team and done really well.

ON ARMANI LITTLE…

He felt his hamstring in training during the early part of the week. He just wasn’t right for today but hopefully he’ll be back fit for the Easter fixtures. We’ll monitor him.

ON THE SECOND-HALF…

We had moments to potentially win it. They defended very well, they put their bodies on the line when we had shots. We put them under a lot of pressure. We made positive changes to the side in the second-half in order to try and get the win. We defended well, they defended well. It was important that we didn’t get beaten today. But we’re going to need wins to get to where we want to get to.
