Wally Downes is looking forward to his young squad being put to the test against Championship opposition tonight.
Our first home pre-season friendly at The Cherry Red Records Stadium is against Brentford, one of Wally’s former clubs, with kick-off at 7.45pm.
“We’re in a good shape,” said Wally. “We’ve told the boys it’s all about preparation, looking after their bodies and physical contact is at a minimum at the moment. We’ve only got one little issue with Dylan Connolly, so he won’t be involved. There have been no injury problems so far.
“The boys have carried on from where they left off last season. They seem happy enough. They are moaning in training about the running! Everything is pointing towards a successful first couple of weeks.
“Brentford will be a terrific test. I saw them play a few times last year and they play really good football. We’ll have to be up to our best, or as close to our best as we can at this stage, to be in the game with them and make it competitive.”
