Young Dons finish with a flourish

A round-up of our players in action elsewhere

Kai Jennings and Ollie Downs were both on target at the weekend, before their time on loan to Sussex clubs came to an end.

Both cases can be deemed a success, with defender Ollie and midfielder Kai gaining significant game time at senior level in the Isthmian Premier.

Kai scored the third goal of his spell with Whitehawk on Saturday. He netted a superb volley from just inside the area in the 17th minute for their second, as the Hawks went on to win 2-1 at home against Potters Bar Town.

Whitehawk claimed ninth place in the table and Kai made eleven appearances for them in under a month and a half.

Ollie, meanwhile, came up with the fourth goal of Bognor Regis Town’s 4-0 victory against Folkestone Invicta.

His powerful shot from inside the area caused all sorts of problems in the 76th minute and put the seal on the win, as Bognor finished in tenth position. Ollie made a total of seven Isthmian Premier appearances over the space of a month.

Fellow defender Leo Young, who has made three appearances at this level, wasn’t involved for Carshalton Athletic on this occasion. The Robins took eleventh in the final table.

Midfielder Harry Sidwell trained with our first team at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Friday. He’s thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from his time with Kingstonian.

Although Ks propped up the final table and have been relegated, Harry has also made seven appearances in the Isthmian Premier in just under a month and a half and has been playing competitively - having also collected a couple of yellow cards in the process.

Goalkeeper Max Foulkes was due to spend the closing stages of the season with Ashford Town (Middlesex) in Isthmian South Central, but he’s been kept in and around our first team squad on match days.

With Alex Bass ruled out with an ankle injury, Max figured on the bench for the second weekend in succession, in our 5-1 win over Walsall.

Defender Sean Sankanu made the twelfth appearance of his time with bottom of the table Corinthian-Casuals. He came off in the 47th minute, during a 3-0 defeat at Westfield.

Our AFC Wimbledon Under-18s lost the local derby at home to Sutton United on Saturday morning. The young Dons, who are seventh in the ten-team Youth Alliance Merit League 1 table, were beaten 2-1.
