The careers of Alan Smith and Steve Coppell couldn’t be more different, as you will discover if you join them at the Cherry Red Records Stadium next week.
They will be talking about their lives in football and answering your questions at ‘An Evening with Steve Coppell & Alan Smith’ Thursday 21 March (7pm start).
Alan was our youth team coach during the three years in the 70’s when three successive Southern League titles finally won us a place in the Football League.
He sat on the bench and worked closely with manager Allen Batsford whose promotion winning team included Ian Cooke, Dickie Guy and Dave Bassett.
Steve, of course, is still renowned as a true Manchester United great whose brilliance as a winger also won him 42 England caps.
They came together at Crystal Palace with Steve as manager and Alan, first as his assistant and then going on to manage Palace himself and winning them promotion.
Firm friends, they have some great stories to tell about their careers and are giving their services free to help raise money for training ground equipment.
